Things to Do in Killeen and Surrounding Area

Killeen is family-friendly, with many amenities and local attractions ideal for couples and families. If you love swimming, the Family Aquatic Center has a 25-meter pool, a water playground, a splash pad, a lap pool and water slides. Families with young children can also visit Long Branch Park, which offers a lot of water features for kids. 

A short drive away from Killeen, you’ll find the Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area (BLORA), which offers fun recreational activities like swimming, hiking trails, boating and water slides from May to October. There are also cabins for rent, and Belton Lake’s “Nature in Lights” Christmas light display is an annual tradition that locals love.

For history buffs, you can visit the 1st Cavalry Division Museum, a combat division of the U.S. Army. Expect to see tanks and other military vehicles in their exhibits. The 3rd Armored Cavalry Museum also features a great collection of military vehicles. One of the biggest military bases in the country is also in Killeen, which is why a lot of veterans and active soldiers live in the city. 

If you love shopping, visit the Killeen Mall, which has more than 90 stores, including Foot Locker, JCPenney and Burlington Coat Factory. Carl Levin Park, located just a few miles from Killeen, has a pavilion perfect for celebrating special occasions such as birthdays or anniversaries. It also has a swimming pool and grilling areas. 

If you love to play golf, don’t miss the golf courses at Clear Creek. The area also offers stunning views of Central Texas. It also has a clubhouse, practice greens and a shop. The Hills of Cove Golf Course is also a must-visit. It’s an 18-hole course that’s also open to the public.

Those into performing arts should visit Vive Les Arts Theatre, which features classic musicals such as “Mary Poppins.”
